I was at a fantastic French immersion weekend in Richmond these past few days (sorry I didn't post anything during that time) and all the teachers there were wishing we could do it again next year. That's when we heard the familiar refrain, "There probably won't be funding." In fact, even for this year as many people were turned away as were accepted due to funding, and no attendees from last year were accepted. I imagine that the cost per participant, including the hotel fees, food, and paying for the presenters, was around $300. Not bad for something with as much or more value as a masters' level class. I really hope they'll find the money to do this kind of thing more often, and to include as many people as can come.
And that's what's got me thinking.
What if money wasn't a factor? What if you had an infinite amount of money for any educational project you wanted? What project would you support, or initiate? I eagerly await your ideas, whether you're currently in education or not. Don't think about how it could best be used in terms of cost savings. Just think about one experience or tool you would want to give students or teachers, even if it seems extravagant or ridiculous. I'll post my own "dream project" after 5 other people have posted theirs here.
And if you're feeling a little more down to earth, and actually want to propose a real life educational project, there's a neat site called Donors Choose that makes it easy for potential sponsors to find you.
